Earning Money Writing for Examiner.com

US Gov. image in public domain

Although I write for 10 or so different websites, the one where I earn the most money is Examiner.com. so I thought the other members of the Preferred Writer Group would want to know about it.

Back when print was king, I earned $400 - $450 per article writing for magazines, but those days appear to be over. Now I write for less than a penny per page view, but the place that penny goes the furthest for me is Examiner.

Not only does Examiner pay a higher percentage of a penny than the other sites I write for, but it attracts many viewers so I don't have to do all the work of promoting my articles.

Examiner's minimum word count requirement is only 150 words per article, so it isn't difficult to come up with ideas and articles. If you know a little basic SEO and have some social networking skills, it helps pull in readers, page views and earnings more quickly.

Earn an Easy $25

Right now Examiner is also offering a "signing bonus" of $25 if new writers contribute two articles of 150 words or more for their first two months. This helps cover the first two normally low-paying months while a writer starts to build a library of articles and begins to get the word out.

If you type my name (Kathryn Darden) or my user ID (375341) in the application, as the person who referred you, I earn whatever bonus they are doing at the time -- usually $25.

If you have not tried Examiner, you should check it out. It is not "get rich quick," but for any writer who can steadily generate articles of 150 words or more each month, it is a good way to earn several hundred dollars a month once you have a library of content up. That is definitely money I can put to good use!

Examiner is currently in the US and Canada. I am not sure what other countries it might be in now or expanding into.

FreeDigitalPicutres : Beautifully Colored Bush Leaves

 Hey PWG

The latest update to my freedigitalpictures blog has five photos of these really beautiful leaves I saw outside my house.  It was nighttime so I had a hard time getting the light and focus to cooperate but I don't think anyone's going to use these anyway.

http://freedigitalpictures.blogspot.com/2014/02/very-colorful-leaves-wide-focus.html

If you are like me and you gather up as many amazing nature shots as you can to put into a folder and cycle on your desktop backgrounds, then these make great backgrounds, trust me.  And there's even a vertical shot that looks amazing on my iphone background.

I hope you guys are enjoying using PWG, or at least figuring out how to.

I think tomorrow I am going to write up a how to guide unless Eden beats me to it.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have an adorable dog that is requiring my complete attention.

Oh by the way, I went back and checked some of my old posts and they were under the 150 word limit.  So I had to add more content to those posts.  I don't mind sort of 'soft-moderating' the forums to poke people into adding tags to their posts and stuff like that...

But people, really, stop using + in your tags, this isn't bubblews.  lol.

aren't i beautiful?

2 Things I Appreciate About PWG

Starting Something New

First off, I just want to thank Jaid for inviting me to this wonderful opportunity. I've been really frustrated over bubblews since they don't seem to pay attention to the missed redemptions. Getting this opportunity up is really great!

1st -

PWG enables us to freely write, and this is why I appreciate this opportunity so much. We are free to post almost about anything, and everything. I think this is how things should go for writers.

2nd -

I love that this site enables me to edit things using HTML tags. It's a good way to attract readers.

-

PWG was putting up a good move, and it will surely help those frustrated writers on other sites. God Bless, and long live.

Coming back to Blogger

It's been four years since I left Blogger and moved to a WordPress site. I used to run a blogging empire from the driver's seat of my taxi, pulling out my MacBook Air to sign on and register a new domain between customers.

Had a taxidriving blog on Blogger. It's still there, if anybody wants to have a look at Car 58, where are you? where you may read the night thoughts of a night cabbie.

Well, I thought it was entertaining reading at the time. And so did my brother cabbies around the world - there's still one or two blogging happily away if you follow the links to Dublin and New York.

The photo shows Taxi 58, freshly repaired after some bingle or another. Probably a kangaroo on my shift.

I guess I'm back on Blogger, as a member of the Prestigious Writers' Group. I'll see if I can find something to write about that isn't taxidriving. Shouldn't be too hard, there's a world of fascinating things out there!

Is Facebook Making Us Less Social?

Facebook has hundreds of millions of members, but how often do the members actually socialize? I'm not talking about liking a friend's post or adding a comment here or there. I'm talking about going out together, having an in-depth conversation or doing pretty much anything outside of Facebook together.

For many, Facebook and other social networks have become a replacement for social interaction. It's easier to take to your computer, smartphone or tablet to connect with friends than spending any real time building true friendships. Take a good look at your friend list. How many of those people are you actually friends with? Do you really know much about them outside what they post?

I think the site's great for connecting with people from your past or keeping up with friends and family that live hours away. It shouldn't be something that drives a wedge between others. For instance, I've watched people in restaurants sitting together who believe they're socializing, but they never speak. They have their smartphones out, checking updates on Facebook and updating their own status. Their digital lives have overtaken their real life.

It's gotten so bad that people are actually being diagnosed with Facebook related depression and fatigue. I love connecting with new people, but I also enjoy cultivating relationships with the people around me as well. Honestly, I don't use Facebook as much as I used to. It's become a place for drama, bragging and the desperate need to have the biggest friend list.

If you find yourself feeling down after using the site, you might be dealing with Facebook misery. To me, it's just not worth it. Especially now that the site makes it difficult to see what you want and pushes ads on you left and right.

What do you think?

BBQ Bacon-Wrapped Chicken Strips

This is my recipe for BBQ bacon-wrapped chicken strips. These always seem to be a definite man-pleaser. I don't know many men who don't like bacon (or many people in general who don't), these aren't hard to make at all, but do cost a little more than the average meal at home. These are so worth it regardless of the cost, and they're great for parties!

Ingredients:
1 pack of bacon
2 chicken breasts
A half cup of BBQ

Directions:
Slice the chicken breasts into strips about 4 inches long and an inch wide on a cutting board and put them on a plate. Lightly fry the bacon strips on both sides for a few seconds in a frying pan, but only enough to lightly brown them without making them crispy; they still need to be able to bend. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, wrap the pieces of chicken with the bacon strips after they've cooled down some and put a toothpick through the bacon and chicken just enough so that it won't unravel. Bake the bacon-wrapped chicken bites for about 40 minutes or until done. When done remove from the oven and spoon out enough BBQ to baste the chicken bites in a coating of BBQ. Enjoy!

These are the best for any kind of party and no one will be able to forget them!

I was interviewed once for a top staff writer's post for a publication in India

I thought I was the best writer in the world when I first began in the 1990s. I was a diploma holder in Journalism from Mumbai and was so eager to show the world at least to the Indians. I thought Indian writers were mediocre. They would write mostly with nouns and adverbs. Though my dad did not have much hope in my writing ambitions, I was sure I would one day be one of the New York Times best selling authors. You know such was the enthusiasm. I would visit editorial offices of publishing houses in India just to rub them in the wrong way. The American consulate library had spoiled me into believing that I could be the next prolific writer to hit the news. One day I received a call letter from the office of India's top selling movie magazine Stardust. They should report sharp. They were interested to use me on their team of staff writers. Read all about it here...

Solivagus on Bubblews : 2/15/14

My Bubblews Posts for the Day

by solivagus

i'm giving you wood

Concerning the horrible dream I had prior to waking last night, and an open letter to the ex-boyfriends who were in it.  BOTH of them, for some reason.

Concerning how excited I was to get up and out of bed and go to Ren Fest, which as You can see from future postings... didn't go as planned.

Not much to this one, it's a review for a fun app.  If you have trouble finding things to use as images for your posts, and you don't want to use something from my blog, this is a good app.

Self explanatory but goes into examples of why you should and how I use them.

Customize It All
You ever wonder?  Well wonder no more, this comprehensive answer will encourage you to put the monster thoughts away.

When buyer's remorse settles in, what do you do to cope?

I started watching Bridezillas, and that was my first mistake...

This phrase represents the 'inaudible music which is celestial in origin'.  If that's not confusing enough.

And the best part is, I'm clothed.  At least that's what Spartanmom says LOL

She sang this amazing song about being a straight up hooker and I applaud her for that.  And I hope one day I can be that proud of being a hooker.

I hope you enjoy my articles, but more importantly, I hope you fricken read them and like them and comment on them, duh.

Solivagus,
Drew

Solivagus makes his YouTube Debut!

I've been a busy beaver!

Between starting about five blogs and a youtube channel, it seems like I haven't been doing anything but 'setting up' for a long time LOL.

But I know that everything I do is another step that will never need to be done again and I am enjoying being my own boss and still having the motivation to get everything done.

I have noticed a few of you shared my posts, that was awesome, and I mean from my personal blog!  Make sure you put up a post of your personal blog or get it on Eden's list so I can follow it, right now I'm following about four and I can stand to follow more, easily.

Here's a video introduction I made of myself on my new youtube channel:

Whattya think?  I'm gorgeously retarded at speaking, aren't I?  Sorry, I didn't mean retarded in a derogatory sense, I really mean don't I seem mentally challenged?

Lol, I think I was just shy and surprised that I was doing this!  But in order to be a success these days you have to be willing to put EVERYTHING out there.  And that's something I have no issue with as of late!

Wrestling (sport)

Do you enjoy watching Wrestling? My son used to wrestler in middle school and it was fun going to the tournaments and watching all of these children come together and laughing and playing around with each other until they walk onto the mat.

We have discovered that wrestling is one of the few team sports that all teams are nice to each other before and after leaving the mat. I have never seen a fight after a wrestling match. The sportsmanship is amazing and the support that the team members give to each other and to the other teams and the coaches also.

This young man (red head gear) won 3rd place today at the tournament for our school. I am so proud of all of team that participated today.
I have to say I was not impressed with the surroundings at first due to
people's attitudes, however as the day went on it got better, all for the Mesa Coach who decides to just squat in front of me while I was taking pictures and did not even say excuse me or I am sorry or anything. It is our rival school and I am sure he did not even see me and that is understandable his player was on the mat and he wanted pictures.
I am into all sports at our school and I would say to parent's to support your child and their team and try to attend as many games as you can, it means so much to your child to look up into the stands and see a loved one and it makes them try even harder to win.
