Deadly Ebola Outbreak

The Ebola outbreak has claimed over 100 lives and maybe more in the counties of Guinea and Liberia in the Western Countries of Africa.
Ebola is a deadly virus that causes hemorrhagic (bleeding) fever and has been thought to be present in animals, the first Ebola virus was discovered in humans during an outbreak in Zaire in 1976.
Ebola is usually spread via the blood or secretions of an infected person.

The symptoms of a person being infected are hemorrhagic fevers, are flulike with headache, nausea,

Remedies for Sinus Infections

The nasal sinuses are connected to the nasal cavity, and a common cold can spread into the
nasal sinuses causing inflamed mucous membranes that can lead to an infection.
The nasal passageway that connects the sinuses to the nasal cavity is narrow and is easily obstructed
due to colds, allergies, or even polyps.
The obstruction prevents drainage and traps air that can’t escape through the nostrils and causes mucous to build up.
A nasal infection develops when a bacterial or viral infection  develops usually a cold that spreads into any of the sinuses causing inflammation and swelling and often in the frontal or maxillary sinuses
The infection can be chronic or acute and most bacteria caused, usually lead to the need for antibiotics.
Symptoms of acute sinusitis are pounding headaches, sneezing, pressure, heavy yellow mucous,
and fever. Acute sinusitis usually clears up in a few days.

Chronic sinus problems are caused by smoking, nasal growths, or nasal injuries.
Sinusitis can be connected to food allergies, so it is best to talk with your doctor.
Natural remedies can be effective dealing with infections such as Horseradish poultice- helps draw out the infections by stimulating the blood flow and metabolism.
Expectorant medicinal plants can help as well if you frequently get colds and sinus infections ,
you should try and incorporate fresh garlic, horseradish, or cayenne pepper into your diet.

These antibacterial plants help loosen nasal fluids and tame the swelling of the sinus membranes.
Horseradish is probably the most effective, and you can grate and sprinkle over your food or purchase it at a health food store in tincture form.
Inducing sweating can help stimulate the immune system, by killing bacteria and helps promote the
 expelling of toxins.
Using a netti pot you can add a spoonful of chamomile, goldenseal, thyme,or diluted saltwater.
Inhaling steam with essential oils such as: eucalyptus, or tea tree oil are very effective.
The steam is antibacterial and thins the mucous and helps loosen nasal secretions while the oils stop the inflammation and swelling.
Dry air will irritate inflamed sinuses so it is best if you use a humidifier to moisten the nasal passages or use pots of boiling water to add moisture to the area.
Be careful when you have a cold, use paper tissues and throw them away after using them.
Drink plenty of water to keep the nasal mucous fluid, and avoid coffee, and soda as they are dehydrating.
Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables daily so that you receive necessary vitamins and minerals.
Limit dairy products because they are known to create thick mucous in the throat, nose, and sinuses and are ideal grounds for bacteria.

The Many Benefits Of Olive Oil

Benefits of olive oil are abundant. The olive tree was originated in Asia and was grown for over thousands of years in the Mediterranean countries where most of the oil is made.
The olives are pitted and crushed to a thick pulp. The olives are then pressed to remove all the juices and are placed in a sieve to remove the water from the oil.

Spain, Greece, and Italy widely consume olive oil and in those countries they have a low cardiovascular disease the oil has a beneficial effect on cholesterol and protects the digestive system.
Taking olive oil for the digestive system can relieve an upset stomach as well as heartburn. It also aids in constipation mixing with lemon juice and taken on an empty stomach.

It is used for earaches, dry skin and stretch marks. Olive oil is also an excellent moisturizer and is added to soaps for its anti-aging effects.

Olive oil can help prevent hair loss by massaging it into your scalp every evening leave it on overnight and wash out in the morning.
This marvelous oil has a therapeutic effect when taken orally it stimulates the metabolism and helps aid the digestion by lubricating the mucous membranes.

Olive oil can help strengthen your finger nails by soaking your nails in a bowl of the oil, with lemon juice and warm water. Wear a pair of gloves overnight so that the oil can penetrate your nails.
When choosing olive oil look for labels that say extra virgin. This assures you that it has been cold pressed from fresh olives and does not contain chemicals.

Extra virgin means the best flavor and it is a golden yellow color that is a higher quality.
The essentials in olive oil have 77 percent of monounsaturated fatty acids, 9 percent polyunsaturated fatty acids,14 percent saturated fatty acids and vitamin E .

Olive oil also contains vitamin E an antioxidant excellent for the skin and helps with anti-aging. Vitamin E helps fight against free radicals which can harm the skins cell membranes.

Ginger's Health Benefits

Ginger is one of the most important digestive herbs in the world and has many health benefits. It can be used for a nauseous stomach, morning sickness, motion sickness, and other intestinal problems.

Ginger is a good remedy for patients who are going through chemotherapy by helping with stomach discomfort and nausea.  This herb can ease stomach upset because ginger has a  warming and blood moving effect that is helpful for people with poor circulation.

Drinking ginger tea with a splash of lemon can help flush out inflammation triggering toxins, reducing joint aches, and also as an extra bonus can trim up to four pounds of trapped fluid in our body, an easy way to lose that excess fluid.

Just drink daily three cups of ginger tea with a little lemon and soon you will see and feel the results.

Ginger can be taken in extract form, capsules, or tea. I personally
have experienced the results from drinking ginger tea.

Many Benefits Of Green Tea

Green tea has been popular in China and other Asian countries and the people of China have been drinking green tea for thousands of years for its medicinal purposes. This tea has been shown to provide many therapeutic benefits.
Unlike Black tea, which is fermented, green tea is steamed and dry roasted. The dried leaves are not allowed to ferment and research has discovered that process possibly is why green tea preserves the cancer preventative ingredient in the tea. The least amount of processing gives the tea its green color and gives it a flowery flavor along with maintaining the active ingredients that produce the green tea’s benefits. Green tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant and the leaves in green tea contain essential oils, polyphenols, caffeine, minerals, vitamins, and fluoride.

This growing research on green tea has shown that drinking the tea for a long period of time has a preventive effect on cancer in the digestive tract, stomach, and colon.
Caffeine is an active ingredient in green tea and although it has its many benefits it does have a high level of caffeine. Depending on the length of time it brews a 6 oz. cup can have as much as 10-50 mg of caffeine. This stimulant helps improve concentration and it also raises alertness. However it also increases the heart rate and can keep you up at night and can cause irritability and stomach upset.
Green tea’s medicinal benefits are numerous. Green tea can prevent tooth decay; the fluoride in the tea hardens the tooth enamel and makes them more resistant to decay. The tea helps with high blood pressure, and several forms of cancer. The polyphenols, a natural chemical in plants that prevent cellular damage, inhibit the growth of cancer cells and any development of tumors. This tea also kills bacteria, lowers Cholesterol, and helps combat the influenza virus.

During menopause drinking green tea will provide women with the extra nutrients that are needed drinking it on a daily basis.
Green tea is known to melt fat for dieters. Its cholesterol lowering effect has no calories and is considered as a supplement when drank daily.
The most common types of Green tea are:
Sencha. It is widely used in Japan and the most common tea available.
Bancha: Contains a low amount of caffeine and the tea is similar to Sencha but has a bitter taste...
In India: Green Darjeeling tea is gentle on the body and is grown in the Himalaya Mountains.
China: Gunpowder tea, the leaves are rolled tight and look like gunshot pellets. They unfurl when placed in water.
Jasmine Tea: a flowery tea which is actually made from jasmine flowers, some varieties are combinations of Black and green teas.
Green tea has a bitter flavor that coffee drinkers will enjoy and the caffeine content which is less than coffee will help keep the caffeine withdrawal headaches away.
Green tea has become so popular that many flavors have been added to the leaves to give it a fruity taste.

Natural Allergy Relief

An allergy is a response from the immune system that a foreign substance or allergen has invaded the body. These substances can be a variety from molds, to foods, chemical additives, drugs, animal dander and many other irritants. When a person comes into contact with an allergen, the immune system reacts by creating protective antibodies.

If a person’s body is receptive to an allergen, the immune system responds by creating special molecules called antibodies that trigger an alert to the specific immune cells called “mast cells”. They are a type of white blood cell that reacts when the body has allergic reaction. When contacted with the allergen, the mast cells react by releasing histamine, a protective substance that can cause swelling of the skin, rashes, or inflammation of the airways.

Natural herbal medicine can offer many treatments for reducing the body’s allergic reaction. The safest way to prevent an allergic reaction is to stay away from the allergen itself. This is only possible for some allergies. Food allergies can be preventable but others like pollen may be impossible to avoid.
There are many herbal treatments that will help the immune system and prevent allergic reactions. Treatments can be applied externally to the skin for rashes or itching. Reducing the intake of dairy for the allergy sufferer can help as dairy can create trouble breathing or increases mucus especially if you have asthma.
Drinking Nettle leaf tea can help with allergies, asthma and circulation. The tea enhances the immune system and helps reduce inflammation, runny nose, itchy eyes and sneezing. It works as anti-histamine. Stinging Nettle tea is a flowering plant that is grown all over the world. It is rich in vitamin K, iron, and calcium. You can purchase it loose or in tea bags and it is recommended to drink 2-3 cups a day to receive the benefits.
Cayenne pepper contains an anti-inflammatory called “capsaicin”. It also helps relieve allergies. Just sprinkle generously over your food for a few days and see the results. Homeopathic treatments can adjust the immune system of allergies however these treatments should be done under the guidance of a professional because sometimes these treatments can actually cause flare ups of the symptoms.
Vitamin C is considered to be a natural antihistamine because it stops the release of histamine by the mast cells. Excellent sources of vitamin C are bell peppers, red meat, kale, orange or grape fruit, broccoli cauliflower, papaya and strawberries.
Acupressure has been known to be very helpful in restoring the immune system and relieving allergies. One technique is to apply pressure to the center of the webbing of your hand, between thumb and index finger. Squeeze and maintain pressure for 2 minutes then do the same procedure on the other hand. Do this as soon as you start to have an allergic reaction.
Herbal extracts have been effective as well, by adding to your bath water, or applying to a compress for allergic skin reactions. For eczema you can use oak bark or witch hazel to fight against the oozing or other skin inflammations. Bran or oatmeal baths are very effective and works quickly with burning and itchy rashes.
Chamomile can be applied to a compress and will help with skin swelling. It contains anti-inflammatory agents which sooth the skin. If you are prone to allergies, try on a regular basis a juice fast. Drink nothing but perseverative free herb and vegetable juices for 2-5 days. This helps cleans out waste products and will help stimulate healing.

As always, check with your doctor before trying any new supplements

Natural Remedies For Diabetes

Diabetes is usually a hereditary disease and chances are that someone you know has diabetes- there are over five million Americans that have this disease and are being treated for it. Diabetes happens when your body does not produce or use insulin, the hormone that helps move consumed sugars out of the blood and into the cells.

An excess of glucose "sugar" in the blood and urine are due to the body’s inability to absorb glucose normally, because of a result of insufficient amount of insulin being produced by the pancreas. The inability to absorb and store the glucose causes it to accumulate in the blood in large amounts that can over flow into the urine.

Frequent urination is due to the abnormal amount of urine being produced to allow the excess glucose that the kidneys need to filter out of the blood. Chronic thirst, excessive hunger, or weight loss are just some symptoms. This occurs because the body is unable to use the glucose so the body then uses fat and proteins as a source of energy. If this condition goes untreated the large amount of sugar can lead to a coma or death.

There are two types of diabetes- Mellitus: Type 1 or juvenile diabetes which occurs during childhood. Type 2 adult- diabetes, can usually happen after 40 years of age. With type 1 diabetes, treatment is a careful diet and insulin injections. With Type 2 diabetes successful efforts can be made when controlled by diet, exercise, and natural remedies. Control is essential to avoid any other issues.

It is important to maintain your weight and get exercise. Limit your intake of rolls, pasta, bread, potatoes, and sweets. Decide to eat instead fresh vegetables, proteins, beans, and nuts. Exercise will help keep your metabolism working because excess sugars in the blood can cause damage to the blood vessels. It is important for diabetics to keep their circulation healthy; the reason is so that enough oxygen can be supplied to the organs. This will prevent problems such as kidney failure, blindness, or circulatory disease.

There are natural remedies that can help and control many diseases. Blueberries, Stevia, Cinnamon, turmeric are just a few. You can eat, drink, or take a capsule with some of these herbal remedies.

Blueberries- help protect the blood vessels from damage, they help keep sugar and cholesterol levels balanced. They help with circulation. They can be eaten, taken in capsule form, or you can drink unsweetened juice.

Turmeric-Has many benefits besides helping with type 2 diabetes. It is an anti-inflammatory, pain reliever, and natural antiseptic. It aids with liver problems, arthritis, insulin resistance, and Alzheimer’s.

Cinnamon- Triples insulin’s effectiveness- It can be sprinkled on food, in coffee, and you can get it in capsule form.

Stevia- a good substitute as a sweetener, helps improve insulin responsiveness.

Fenugreek Seeds and Blackberry- by using the seeds and leaves as a tea it has a very beneficial effect on the pancreas. Just mix both in a teaspoon, boil water, let sit for 30 minutes then strain. You can use the Fenugreek seeds and apply to food or make a spread.

Asian Ginseng- helps lower blood sugar.

Yarrow, Dandelion, chicory, and Bilberry are just another few natural herbal products that can be used for diabetes.

As always, check with your doctor before using any herbal product.

Headache-The Body's Warning Signal

headache is one of the body’s most powerful warning signals and it can often be a sign of something physical or psychological. There are several different types of headaches and they vary depending on where the pain occurs.
These are tension, cluster, simple and combination headaches with migraines being extremely intense, with nausea and vomiting usually accompanying the migraine.
The pain can be started by a number of things. A very common cause is tense muscles in the head or neck. Headaches can also be symptoms of withdrawal from OTC pain killers, caffeine, emotional stress, allergies and alcohol to name a few.

Tension headaches: Many people feel pressure due to the change in the weather. The barometric pressure in the atmosphere causes the blood vessels in the head to constrict and expand which causes tense muscles in the back of the head or neck. The swelling of blood vessels, inflammation of the nerve endings or muscular contractions at the base of the skull causes the head to pound or throb.
Cluster headaches: Are recurring and can be due to a number of factors such as high blood pressure, injuries, or alcohol. Triggers can be hairsprays, perfumes, cleansers and many other things.
Simple headaches: Give you that pulsing, hammering feeling in the head. Fever, lack of oxygen, blood pressure or stress can cause this headache.

Combination headaches: Give you a dull pain that can start in the morning and is known to reoccur between migraine attacks. The cause is still unknown.
Migraines are severe and are caused by the dilation of the blood vessels in the brain. Often the pain is on one side of the head with possible loss of vision, flashing lights, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting. Causes can be hereditary or possibly circulatory trouble.

Some foods have been known to trigger a migraine such as chocolate, nicotine, tea to name a few.
There are some natural remedies that can be just as effective as prescription drugs. Some are relaxation exercises, massage and homeopathic treatment. These can help prevent or relieve the pain caused by the different types of headaches.

Headaches can be relieved by applying a cold wet compress to the area and putting a few drops of peppermint oil on the compress and apply for 15 minutes. Using acupressure, squeeze the fleshy webbing part of your hand between your thumb and index finger until you begin to feel relief. Using relaxation, give yourself a footbath which moves the blood from your head to your feet. You can restrict your contact with outside activity and getting fresh air will help
Herbal remedies help prevent some of these headaches. It is believed that Kava Kava, a member of the pepper family has been used to help with headaches. However the FDA has not approved it and there are many side effects.
Feverfew, a plant from the Balkan Mountains in East Europe and now grown in North and South America has been used to prevent migraines along with Gingko Biloba. But as always check with your doctor before taking any of these supplements.

This time tested home remedy can provide a quick relief from a headache. Put a few drops of fresh lemon juice into a cup of black coffee and drink it in small sips.

Warning…This is not for people with sensitive stomachs.

What Is Edema?

The human heart pumps about 5 quarts of blood per minute, circulating oxygen, water, and nutrients into the capillaries. The blood floods the vessel walls to reach all the bodies tissues.

When circulation is poor, fluid will build up in the tissues which is the condition called “edema”. The cause of edema can be a blocked flow of blood, an injury to the lymphatic or blood vessels, surgery, or trauma to the blood vessels.

Circulatory or kidney disease, tumors, and metabolic disorders all can hinder blood flow and cause edema. One of the most common causes of edema is cardiac insufficiency which is a condition in which the heart muscle is unable to pump or receive enough amounts of blood as a result fluid builds up in the tissues and causes edema.

There are natural medicinal plants that are diuretics and can be taken to promote drainage of the tissues.

Horsetail, goldenrod, dandelion and parsley are all excellent herbs and can be taken in tea or tincture form, which is stronger since it is concentrated.

Benefits Of Cayenne

The red pepper or cayenne is a small perennial shrub that is a native of South America, or any other warm of the world. This plant has white flowers, then green, and then eventually red or yellow pods.

Cayenne can be taken in capsules, extract form, or powder by just sprinkling it over your food, just go with a light hand unless you can take the heat.

The benefits of taking cayenne are very effective for treating a cold, poor circulation, or a weak digestion. In some of the tropical climates cayenne when taken actually cools the body by promoting sweating.

The health benefits are many there are prescription creams and liniments that can treat be shingles, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and even sore muscles. The reason it is so effective is that there is an active ingredient called “capsaicin” which effectively blocks the transmission of the pain impulse in the body.

The burning sensation that you may feel after ingesting cayenne is normal and won’t hurt you, and in fact cayenne can help heal an ulcer rather than aggravate it.
