Headache-The Body's Warning Signal

headache is one of the body’s most powerful warning signals and it can often be a sign of something physical or psychological. There are several different types of headaches and they vary depending on where the pain occurs.
These are tension, cluster, simple and combination headaches with migraines being extremely intense, with nausea and vomiting usually accompanying the migraine.
The pain can be started by a number of things. A very common cause is tense muscles in the head or neck. Headaches can also be symptoms of withdrawal from OTC pain killers, caffeine, emotional stress, allergies and alcohol to name a few.

Tension headaches: Many people feel pressure due to the change in the weather. The barometric pressure in the atmosphere causes the blood vessels in the head to constrict and expand which causes tense muscles in the back of the head or neck. The swelling of blood vessels, inflammation of the nerve endings or muscular contractions at the base of the skull causes the head to pound or throb.
Cluster headaches: Are recurring and can be due to a number of factors such as high blood pressure, injuries, or alcohol. Triggers can be hairsprays, perfumes, cleansers and many other things.
Simple headaches: Give you that pulsing, hammering feeling in the head. Fever, lack of oxygen, blood pressure or stress can cause this headache.

Combination headaches: Give you a dull pain that can start in the morning and is known to reoccur between migraine attacks. The cause is still unknown.
Migraines are severe and are caused by the dilation of the blood vessels in the brain. Often the pain is on one side of the head with possible loss of vision, flashing lights, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting. Causes can be hereditary or possibly circulatory trouble.

Some foods have been known to trigger a migraine such as chocolate, nicotine, tea to name a few.
There are some natural remedies that can be just as effective as prescription drugs. Some are relaxation exercises, massage and homeopathic treatment. These can help prevent or relieve the pain caused by the different types of headaches.

Headaches can be relieved by applying a cold wet compress to the area and putting a few drops of peppermint oil on the compress and apply for 15 minutes. Using acupressure, squeeze the fleshy webbing part of your hand between your thumb and index finger until you begin to feel relief. Using relaxation, give yourself a footbath which moves the blood from your head to your feet. You can restrict your contact with outside activity and getting fresh air will help
Herbal remedies help prevent some of these headaches. It is believed that Kava Kava, a member of the pepper family has been used to help with headaches. However the FDA has not approved it and there are many side effects.
Feverfew, a plant from the Balkan Mountains in East Europe and now grown in North and South America has been used to prevent migraines along with Gingko Biloba. But as always check with your doctor before taking any of these supplements.

This time tested home remedy can provide a quick relief from a headache. Put a few drops of fresh lemon juice into a cup of black coffee and drink it in small sips.

Warning…This is not for people with sensitive stomachs.

The Incompetence of all Technical Support Personal.

Well today it came apparent to me that a lot of the workers at any technical support from a major company or corporation have little or no proper education, or training on how to actually solve the problems people come to them with. This is true for AT&T, Verizon, Apple and lately Dish Network and Comcast. Why do I say this, well because after calling them it became more than clear that after being transferred to multiple departments, being in the phone over an hour explaining over and over the issue, trying to reach a solution the people they employ are incompetent and have no idea how to properly do anything to solve the issue?

After calling Dish today, being transferred to six different people, trying to get the XM music channels to properly display on my TV and channel guide, they could not help me. After I had given up on them I began to tick things around on my own and all it took to fix the problem was the push of a simple button and problem solved! I was furious with them before, when I figured how simple the solution was I was even more furious about the matter. No offense to anyone working in tech support if you actually know what you are doing, but there are a lot of people out there that have no idea, or have no care for providing actual help to their customers.

Mud is Mud

Tis the Season for Mud.  I love snow, I love rain.  I hate mud, but there is no way to have one and not the other.  I don't like muddy floors, it barely have to time to mop them 2-3 times a week, much less 1-2 times a day.
What is with kids and mud?  They love it.  They stomp around in it all day and it never bothers them.  I can't handle mud even being on my shoes.  The next storm we get, snow or rain, I am going to be prepared!  I will tape down towels everywhere.  Or maybe I will just buy the kids each their own little mop and tell them to clean up their own messes.
I really am looking forward to spring, I just am dreading the mud that will probably come along with it.
I would like to share a little poem about mud.  I wrote this when I had just about had enough and was about to lose my mind.  I love being able to speak what it on my mind and not have anyone judge me for it.  That is what is so great about sites like this and Bubblews.
Here it is:

Creative Commons -- Gateway to Black Hat Copyright Infringement

Will We Be Protected at Preferred Writers Group?

I am reprinting an older article from Bukisa for the Preferred Writers Group in hopes it opens some dialog on whether or not our articles will be copyright protected here. It would be nice to have a notice somewhere on the PWG that all articles are copyrighted by the writers, all right reserved.

Bukisa had so many issues with keyword stuffing, too many links and copyright infringement, they were shunned by Google search and reputable websites considered them spam links. My fears for Bukisa noted below were well-grounded; about a year or less after I wrote this article, the site had stopped payouts. I still can't log in to remove my old content.

Bukisa's Creative Commons -- Gateway to Black Hat Copyright Infringement

Why Bukisa's Creative Commons settings have become an open invitation for black hatters to steal your work

In the past two weeks, Google Alerts has been sending me a constant stream of my titles and quotes from my Bukisa articles appearing on other websites. Bukisa encourages use of the Syndication feature or the Creative Commons - Attribution-No Derivative Works 3.0 Unported so we can "Gain more exposure and more readers, build backlinks to your articles and thus increase your search engine positions = more traffic = more views = more money for you." The Creative Commons - Attribution-No Derivative Works seems to offer more protection while still getting backlinks, so many Bukisa writers have opted for that setting.

Creative Commons - Attribution-No Derivative Works 3.0 Unported

If you click the "What is this?" link next to the Creative Commons retting, you learn that Creative Commons - Attribution-No Derivative Works 3.0 Unported means people may copy the article - as long as they link back to the original content on Bukisa. Supposedly those who want to use your work will read the terms which state that anyone is free to copy, distribute and transmit the work and to make commercial use of the work under the following conditions:

Creative Commons - Attribution-No Derivative Works 3.0 Unported Terms of Use

Attribution — You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).

What does "Attribute this work" mean?
The page you came from contained embedded licensing metadata, including how the creator wishes to be attributed for re-use. You can use the HTML here to cite the work. Doing so will also include metadata on your page so that others can find the original work as well.
No Derivative Works — You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work.

With the understanding that:

Waiver — Any of the above conditions can be waived if you get permission from the copyright holder.
Public Domain — Where the work or any of its elements is in the public domain under applicable law, that status is in no way affected by the license.
Other Rights — In no way are any of the following rights affected by the license:
Your fair dealing or fair use rights, or other applicable copyright exceptions and limitations;
The author's moral rights;
Rights other persons may have either in the work itself or in how the work is used, such as publicity or privacy rights.
Notice — For any reuse or distribution, you must make clear to others the license terms of this work. The best way to do this is with a link to this web page.

Black Hatters Don't Follow the Rules

However, apparently the black hatters are not reading the terms, and many articles of mine on Bukisa, which were set with Creative Commons - Attribution-No Derivative Works, have been showing up on multiple websites with no back links and no attribution. Not only that, but the black hatters are back linking aggressively (some might say "spammishly") to MY articles on their sites, so those plagiarized articles rank HIGHER on their sites than the ones I originally wrote for Bukisa. What this means to me is NO INCOME. If people are reading my articles on other sites, I am not being paid for my work.

Interestingly enough, I never found one Creative Commons - Attribution-No Derivative Works article that was linking back to a Bukisa article - they were all simply plagiarized. The Creative Commons - Attribution-No Derivative Works setting seems to be an open invitation to copy. Apparently black hatters think by allowing some copying via the Attribution-No Derivative Works license, there won't be any ramifications for not providing correct attribution for intellectual property or backlinks to original articles.

Resetting the Creative Commons License

The first thing I did was check my settings and to my dismay, I found some articles had somehow slipped into Syndication mode. This must be a Bukisa glitch because I only set a handful of specific articles to Syndication. The rest were set for No Copying or the Creative Commons - Attribution-No Derivative Works. I immediately began to reset all my articles to No Syndication - No Syndication Allowed - No Copying/Altering, but I hit another snag. In my first couple of years on Bukisa, minimum article length was 250 words. Now it is 350 words, so to change the settings on my older, shorter articles, I must ADD ANOTHER 100 WORDS!

The Problem with Rewrites

This presents a couple of problems. One is I already wrote the article, and it is a pain to have to go back and add another 100 words just so I can reset the licensing terms. The second is -- you better believe I am going to get Google to remove the copyright infringing articles, and I hate to alter my original article when I am in the process of sending the links to Google to prove the articles were copied. I contacted Bukisa and explained the problem and received -- ABSOLUTELY NO HELP.

What Can You Do?
  • Read Plagiarism and Copyright Infringement: Thou Shalt Not Steal for a layman's look at plagiarism and copyright infringement.
  • Don't use the Creative Commons - Attribution-No Derivative Works or the Syndication license if you don't want your articles showing up on other websites and NOT linking back to you. The black hatters are ignoring the part about links, and you are not only losing your work, but you are not getting any backlinks. And Bukisa sure isn't going to go after these black hatters for violating the terms of the Creative Commons - Attribution-No Derivative Works license!
  • Set Google Alerts for your articles & poems
  • Visit Plagiarismtoday.com. They have Stock Letters you can send websites that steal your articles as well as contacts and other resources to help fight plagiarism and copyright infringement.
  • Use the Google AdSense DMCA complaint form when appropriate.
  • Add your own warning. Now I close all my articles with this:

What Is Edema?

The human heart pumps about 5 quarts of blood per minute, circulating oxygen, water, and nutrients into the capillaries. The blood floods the vessel walls to reach all the bodies tissues.

When circulation is poor, fluid will build up in the tissues which is the condition called “edema”. The cause of edema can be a blocked flow of blood, an injury to the lymphatic or blood vessels, surgery, or trauma to the blood vessels.

Circulatory or kidney disease, tumors, and metabolic disorders all can hinder blood flow and cause edema. One of the most common causes of edema is cardiac insufficiency which is a condition in which the heart muscle is unable to pump or receive enough amounts of blood as a result fluid builds up in the tissues and causes edema.

There are natural medicinal plants that are diuretics and can be taken to promote drainage of the tissues.

Horsetail, goldenrod, dandelion and parsley are all excellent herbs and can be taken in tea or tincture form, which is stronger since it is concentrated.

I think I will Stop Playing Candy Crush

After reading the paperwork and all of the legal battles one family has gone through for all of the pain and suffering it is amazing that anyone would want to play candy crush again.

You can read the open letter that this game creator for CandySwipe wrote to king.com here

This all boils down to greed and this company has many other games so why pick on the little guy who created his game years before Candy Crush came out?

This man created his game in honor of his late mother and the game clearly says it in the scrolling credits.

This just goes to show how the company/person with the most money always pays off people to get their cases won even when they are in the wrong.

This is making news all over and I am getting ready to take Candy Crush off my phone and remove it from my games on facebook. I will not play a game that the owners actually tried to put a smaller company out of business. The would is big enough for both of your companies.

But that is just my 2 cents on the matter and I am entitles to think on my own and feel the way I do, everyone does and it is OK to disagree on things, just  it is not OK to attack each other personal or professionally.

Family Day: Made to Measure

Family Day: Made to Measure Metaphors

Part I: The Extended Family

The baby was born to the family of Nations in the summer of  1945. The name, for the little darling, was the United Nations Charter or NUC, pronounced  with a short U sound, never long, and, yes, the C is hard. The relatives were the 50 nations and they had reached an agreement despite differences and similarities inherent in family dynamics. There was no need for a book on the best of baby names, polls, roman numerals as in royalty. Examples like Henry VII or Louis II spring to mind.  Exhaustive searches  through family trees that honour past generations were avoided. The global family just landed on this name as the simplest most natural evolution for identity. Made more obvious in conclusion to a grueling World War II, and the end of the fascist regime. They shook hands, toasted the new arrival and oohed and aahed over the fuzz of fine print, gurgles of delight in new measures and the eyes (Is brought together) in purposeful intent as  Givers of Care. I would say they were also the visionaries into human nature and the power hungry with eyes of their own.

The potential existed, in this chubby cherub of an international pact, to combat the atrocities of war, tear down the derelict passages of despotism and lend human rights a hand. The child, humanism, would no longer be left to the elements of chance and or a world populace that promised, vaguely, at times, to treat each other well. Whenever and wherever human rights were thrown and left for dead in a pit, or tossed in the back alley, starved behind bars,  hung from a limb or ground under wheels, NUC would be found setting things right with the support of the global family and to the general delight of the populace, human. Yes, give that baby a cape, insignia, hat, a cool toolbelt, Olympic medal and or tattoo. I will leave it to your invention, remembering that Batman and Superman are, obviously taken, but generally encapsulate the essence of NUC in the sphere of a combatant for peace and compassion.

As promised, the UN has remained vigilant uncovering a heinous record of intolerance and human rights abuses that accost the concept of humanism and break the scales of sense and sensibility. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is under investigation as story after story unfolds from political prisoners and citizens in North Korea that tell of the atrocities they suffer. It is out there in digital print across content. We hang our heads, sigh deeply but do not turn away from recognizing the other side of being human in this world. We are thankful for the Givers of Care  who stand up to refute those who could care – less as their agenda is set in a direction of their own making, fired by greed or power or  irrelevant relevancy.

I play with words as a mild distraction from the pain of truths that tells us that we have not yet moved on from strife, people’s inhumanity to people. I set this down in black and white next to the  equally powerful reality that it was the global family of nations that brought us a Charter in 1945  as a contender.  Foresight enables us now, a return to the equilibrium of justice, through their work. I am in awe of  the power of the pen that unveils the wrongs in stories coming out of North Korea. The gift for us, from Nations of a signed Charter. These people and their stories will not be buried  under a pile of leaflets, fastened to the slush pile,  paraded as ads or passed off next to political red tape.  We have the means for intervention from the global family.  NUC is all grown up and prepared to do his family proud. :)

Part II: The Family Nucleus

In Canada, the Trudeaus’ gave birth to a son, Justin. He now leads a liberal convention this week with a focus on economics and middle class families. We experience the tiny rips and tears in the fabric of making a living. The material has been slightly overstretched from one of  many factors, in particular, the rise of emergent markets in Asia. Justin has, thankfully, undergone a bit of a growth spurt:  popularity and a real ability to build an incredible, dynamic team. This makes his National family proud and hopeful for the future.
The suggestion is that maybe we will find new markets in Mexico, US, Europe and in sourcing here, as we are already in India and China. Harper, the stringent yet formidable family father, has a maturity and level of expertise that is not to be downplayed.

On this family day and  holiday, from where I sit, I am thrilled that we now have a liberal leader, Justin Trudeau, emerging.  I have watched him grow and now he just might challenge the current leader in more than voice. I have always appreciated the best and variety in choices, and so I add the NDP to the mix and look forward to the federal election of the future. I hope our youth will take notice, regain optimism in the political process.  I am thanking you in advance for your interest and action as a country and a democracy gains steam through the votes of the many. The youth are no exception. This family works better with a full house. :)

Part III: Familial Ties

Our family breakfasted on oats with apple cubes. We enjoyed the brown sugar feel of  sprinkled wheat germ on the warm lumpy oatmeal. Grapefruit, coffee and water were the accompaniments of our gathering as we were ensconced in front of the fire place with plates, bowls and beverages, all within easy reach.
After the warmth of companionship,  we headed in our own directions. We are not a young family. We planned to meet up again in a couple of days and head up north for the Feb. break to ski, continue renovations and learn more of each other, in this phase of family. Each of us will pick a day to cook, and plan the activities for all, when we reunite.

We are now a mini community with deep roots. This is the natural evolution of our family base from the kids at single digits, then teens and now young adults. My husband and I have grown into listeners, but we refute the stereotype, in our young adult kids,  that casts us out of the story and or the telling side of things. We are educated beings with many life lessons to share. We avoid the pitfall of over parenting them as if they were 6. Conversations abound, emotions fluctuate and we do not know the formula for being a perfect family. Maybe it has to do with relativity and the whole gravity of things, E=MC squared. :)  We have a slightly messy ,wholly immeasurable version of family but we are happy and interested in each other, the extended family and the world outside of us.We are tied by our love, our memories, our sense of the surmountable and in. I guess we would say that we are a family that is made to measure according to the dna, environments, cause and effect of our times. The value of family and friends does not underscore our thoughts or permeate our footings but  just  floats, shares our space, like the air we breathe.

Happy Family Day.

This is a group we met out on the ice and snow a few days ago. Adorable!!! They have an astute sense of fun and plenty of room for outdoor adventure with family at the centre.
